Robotics- It is the engineering science and technology of robots, their design, manufacture, application, and structural disposition. The term 'robot' was first introduced by Karel Capek in his play Rossum's Universal Robots, published in 1920. But the first recorded use of this term was done bu Asimov in his science fiction "Liar".
The first robot was the 'Unimate'(1961), which was programmed to pick hot metal pieces. But today the fields that are untouched by the robotics are rare. They include space exploration, surgery, defense, manufacturing, packing, entertainment etc. Today the names like Asimo and Topio are known even for the small children.
